What does Neroli Portofino smell like?
Neroli Portofino is a unisex citrus from 2011, credited to Tom Ford himself. The top is a bright cluster of bergamot, mandarin orange and lemon, with lavender and myrtle adding a herbal, slightly green edge. Neroli leads the heart, joined by African orange flower, orange blossom and jasmine. The base is short: amber, ambrette and angelica.
The accords read citrus, white floral, aromatic, fresh, green and powdery. Ambrette and angelica, two of the three base notes, are the detail to check on any clone: none of the clone note lists quoted below includes either.
10ML stocks no other version of it, so every pick below is set against this one.

Best overall: Lazuli
Lazuli by Al Wataniah has the most one-sided vote in this guide. On Parfumo's comparison page, only one of the voting members disagrees that the two are similar.
Two members on Fragrantica back that up. One wore the two against each other, could not tell them apart, and sent the Tom Ford bottle back. The other finds Lazuli very close, clean and airy. The main difference that second member reports is staying power: on their skin it fades early.
It suits someone who wants the Neroli Portofino style in a big bottle and will check on their own skin how long it stays; one member found it short-lived. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's vote and two members on Fragrantica.

Closest on the dry-down: Porto Neroli
Porto Neroli by Maison Alhambra, also sold by the house as Pacific Blue, is where the evidence talks about the finish. A member on Fragrantica calls it one of the closest alternatives to Neroli Portofino: a light citrus start, then neroli to the end, and a dry-down that matches the Tom Ford.
Not everyone agrees. Another member on the same page finds it a citrus-cleaner smell and not close. The vote leans the first member's way: on Parfumo's comparison page, where it is listed under both names, nearly all voting members find the pair similar. The main difference, going by the first member, is the start: only a slight touch of citrus before the neroli takes over.
It suits someone who cares more about the finish than the first spray. No EU shop listed a price for it when we checked. Basis: a named source, one Fragrantica member with a dissent, and Parfumo's vote.

Lowest price: Echt Kölnisch Wasser
4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser is not a clone. It is a classic eau de cologne, here because its Parfumo comparison page has drawn more votes than any other pick's, and the large majority of those voters find the two similar.
Members writing under Porto Neroli on Fragrantica place the Tom Ford in the 4711 cologne tradition; one calls it a rendition of the 4711 original. The main difference those same members point to is wear: they fault the 4711 for fading very quickly.
It suits someone who wants the citrus-and-blossom idea at the lowest price in the table and is happy to splash it on often. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's vote and members' remarks on Fragrantica.

Premium alternative: Portfolio Neroli Canvas
Portfolio Neroli Canvas by Al Haramain has the highest bottle price in the table and belongs to the house's Portfolio line. On Parfumo's comparison page, a clear majority of those voting see a likeness to Neroli Portofino.
Its Fragrantica listing gives lemon, bergamot and petitgrain, then neroli and orange blossom, then musk, amber and cedar. The main difference on paper is the herbs and the woods: no lavender, mandarin or jasmine, and petitgrain and cedar where the original lists myrtle and angelica.
It suits someone who wants neroli and orange blossom over musk, amber and cedar and will pay the highest bottle price here for it. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's vote and the Fragrantica note list.

Softer take: Néroli Intense
Néroli Intense by Jeanne en Provence draws the second-biggest turnout of voters here. On Parfumo's comparison page, about nine in ten voters judge the pair similar, and a Fragrantica editorial on the brand's neroli line points Neroli Portofino lovers its way.
On its Fragrantica page, one member places it between Neroli Portofino and the 4711 cologne, leaning toward the Tom Ford. Others describe a sharp citrus opening that settles into soft, airy neroli and jasmine. The main difference is volume: those members call it a quiet scent that fades fast.
It suits someone who wants the neroli and jasmine kept close to the skin. Its price cell in the table is empty, as we could not find an EU shop price when checking. Basis: a named source, Parfumo's vote, members on Fragrantica and Fragrantica's own editorial.

Fresher take: Portofino
Portofino by FIORE is the one pick with no outside backing. FIORE presents its Portofino as a fragrance twin of Neroli Portofino, built on lemon, neroli and orange blossom, and sells it as an extrait. The house also gives it five out of five on its own freshness scale, the source of its "fresher" label.
The main difference on paper is the short list: lemon, neroli and orange blossom, with none of the lavender, myrtle, ambrette or angelica from the original's list. That is the house's description, not a finding from anyone else, and we found no member comparison to set beside it.
It suits a buyer who wants a short, citrus-led list and is comfortable taking the maker's word for the likeness. Basis: a named source, FIORE's product page.

Five votes and one sales page
Five of the six picks carry a Parfumo comparison vote, and all five lean heavily toward similar. The exception is Portofino by FIORE, which rests only on its maker's description.
What the members on Fragrantica keep returning to is not the opening but how long the scent stays: Lazuli, Néroli Intense and the 4711 all draw remarks about fading early on someone's skin. That is a pattern in personal accounts, not a measurement, but it is worth knowing before you buy a big bottle. For another fresh orange-blossom original and its clones, see our Valaya dupes guide.
A clone bottle or a 3ml of Neroli Portofino?
On price per ml, each priced pick in the table sits far below a decant of the original. Neroli Portofino works out at €4.42/ml in a 10ml decant (€44.19) and €3.92/ml in the 30ml size (€117.45). If citrus is what you spray most mornings and you reapply through the day, that gap adds up fast.
The other way to look at it is the cost of finding out. A 3ml of Neroli Portofino, around 60 sprays, is €17.46. Seven days of wear settle whether the ambrette-and-angelica finish is worth paying for, or whether a cologne-style splash does the job for you. The decant or full bottle guide works through the same choice for any perfume.
Authentic perfumes from the same citrus family
If you want to stay with originals, three share a good part of the Neroli Portofino structure. Azure Lime, also by Tom Ford, keeps bergamot, neroli and amber, then swaps the herbs for lime, marine notes and musk. Mandarino di Amalfi, a third Tom Ford citrus, shares lemon, orange blossom, jasmine and amber but turns greener and spicier with mint, basil, shiso and black pepper. Valaya by Parfums de Marly shares bergamot, mandarin orange and orange blossom, then goes soft and musky with white peach, aldehydes and vanilla. All three come in decant sizes, which lets you put two next to the original in one week. For the citrus note behind all of this, read what bergamot smells like.
How to test a dupe
Citrus top notes are usually the first to go, so the first spray of a Neroli Portofino alternative tells you the least. Wear the original on a morning and the clone on the next, and check three moments: the lemon and bergamot at the start, the neroli once it has settled, and whether any powder is left in the afternoon.
A 3ml of Neroli Portofino is enough for those mornings, and if the original wins, its 10ml decant holds around 200 sprays. Never bought a decant? Our pages on how decants work and buying without the blind buy cover the basics.
Clone or original? What to know first
- Can I wear Neroli Portofino for a week before buying a dupe?
- Yes. Every size 10ML sells, 3ml, 10ml and 30ml, is filled from the original Neroli Portofino bottle. At €17.46, the smallest gives around 60 sprays, a week of mornings beside any clone.
- Which Neroli Portofino dupe comes first in this guide, and on what evidence?
- Lazuli by Al Wataniah. Only one Parfumo member who voted on the pair finds it unlike the original, and a Fragrantica member who tested the two against each other could not separate them and returned the Tom Ford bottle. Another finds it fades early on their skin.
- Is Porto Neroli by Maison Alhambra close to Neroli Portofino?
- Opinions split. One Fragrantica member finds its dry-down matches the Tom Ford, another finds it a citrus-cleaner smell and not close. Nearly all Parfumo voters on the pair call it similar.
- Why is a 4711 cologne in a list of Neroli Portofino clones?
- It is not a clone but a classic eau de cologne that members on Fragrantica tie the Tom Ford to; one calls Neroli Portofino a rendition of the 4711 original. Its Parfumo comparison draws the most votes of any pick here.
- Do the clones cost less per ml than a Neroli Portofino decant?
- Yes, by a wide margin for every clone with a price. Neroli Portofino runs to €4.42/ml in the 10ml size (€44.19), while the dated table on the page shows the clone bottles.
- Which alternatives keep the neroli and orange blossom?
- Portfolio Neroli Canvas lists both, and so does FIORE's Portofino. Among the originals we stock, Azure Lime keeps the neroli, while Mandarino di Amalfi and Valaya keep the orange blossom.
- Will Neroli Portofino stay on my skin through a working day?
- No one can promise that: skin chemistry and heat change it from person to person. Give a 3ml a week of workdays and you will have your own answer before any bottle is bought.
