Jul et Mad Paris dates from 2012, when it was started by Julien Blanchard and Madalina Stoica-Blanchard, a couple whose love story began in a Paris café. The house works in soft, powdery textures lit by aldehydes, with musk and smoke running underneath. Stairway To Heaven, from 2019, is the way in: bright aldehydes, bergamot and sweet orange up top, then Bulgarian rose and orris, settling on white musk, cashmeran and a thread of incense. There is even a hint of gunpowder, which keeps the powder from turning too sweet. Wear it when you want something clean yet a little mysterious.
